I have a loose deadline

I never wanted to be a nurse, really. My first year as a nurse was quite daunting... three years of on the job training at Prince Henry's Hospital, Melbourne. Living in the nurses home, when really I would have preferred to live at home. Expectations to "love" nursing and be a "good nurse". There was a lot I enjoyed about my first 3 years - and it sounds trite, but helping other people actually is quite a nice thing to do. But the list of intolerable experiences as a nurse is extensive and may be discussed in a later blog. There seemed to be a lot of "not so nice" nurses working as nurses. I wondered what their motivation was for being there. Well I have been nursing since 1973. I have seen a lot. I chose Midwifery as a launching pad in 1979, not because I wanted to deliver babies, but because it was a passport to travel abroad. However, I actually really enjoyed looking after women and I liked the babies (and their potential to grow into a perfect human being). Nursing has taken me into Child and Family Health Nursing, and that is interesting (because it is all about life, and families), and it connects to my own experience in many ways. Through nursing, I've gained a better appreciation of my own existance. BUT I WANT TO PAINT,DRAW SKETCH AND DESIGN.
That's what gives me the most pleasure:)
